Which is the best Hospitality school in Switzerland?
If you are seeking to study Hospitality Management in Switzerland, please note the following points:
The Swiss Hospitality Institute landscape is much diversified. You will find world leading institutions and poor teaching Institutes with barely any international recognition for their awarded degrees.
Therefore it is absolutely essential that the student should verify the recognition the Hospitality Institutes have. The Hospitality Institutes can be recognised by the Swiss authorities through the Universities of Applied Sciences system (which is the case for Hotel School Lausanne and Les Roches Gruyère) or through different private institutions, but amongst which the NEASC (New England Association of Schools and Colleges) is the main international recognition institution.
Furthermore, some Hospitality Institutes have formed an association named Swiss Hotel Management Schools Association (De: Verein Schweizerischer Hotelfachschulen, Fr: Association Suisse des Ecoles Hôtelières) [ASEH], but but a majority of Swiss Hospitality Institutes are not members of the, ASEH. ASEH has fixed certain academic, professional and ethical standards for its members. This may also be considered a source of information before you choose your Institute of study.
International students should visit the websites of EduQua and ASEH, NEASC or Universities of applied sciences:(Fr: Hautes écoles spécialisées, De: Fachhochschulen/Hotelfachschulen) which provide full information on their recognition before seeking admission.
All Swiss Institutes of Hospitality Management are in the private sector and Swiss authorities have no control over them in case of any dispute over terms, conditions and facilities offered by the Institutes.
Direct admission may be sought in a Institute. Avoid going to education advisers/coordinators/counselors appointed by the Institutes who are basically commission agents.
And remember, refund of fees or change in course or change of Institute is an extremely difficult task.
Medium of instruction in most of the Institutes is either German or French and only a very few Institutes offer courses in English.
Some Institutes assist in Paid Internship in Swiss hotels and restaurants. However, in a number of cases, students had to arrange Paid Internship by themselves which is difficult.
I would always advise for every student if possible to visit the campus to get an impression.
