The University of Teacher Education Central Switzerland, PHZ (Pädagogische Hochschule Zentralschweiz) is one of 15 university-level teacher training institutions in Switzerland. PHZ offers:
- Basic teacher training for the pre-school level, primary level, and for the lower secondary level
- In-service education and supplementary training for teachers Research and development Services in the areas of schools and education
- The Institute for School and Diversity specialises in education of children with special needs and support-diagnostic problems in education, in-service education and supplementary education. In addition it develops e-learning und takes part in school-related development projects.
- The Institute for Teaching and Learning deals with educational and learning processes. In particular, it focuses on instruction, assessment, learning environments, guided and co-operative learning, and individual knowledge acquisition.
- The Institute for Educational Professionalism and School Culture concentrates on the profession expertise, cognition and biographies of teachers and the effect this has on school culture.
- Institute for Media and School Education specialises in questions relating to the implementation and use of large range of teaching and learning media within a school context. The institutes' research and development promote innovative educational developments in a media-based world.
- The Institute for International Cooperation in Education concentrates on questions relating to international mobility for students, lecturers and other members of staff at PHZ. It makes a contribution towards the promotion of education in developing countries and deals with the educational aspects of other countries.
- At the Institute for the Management and Economics of Education, particular attention is paid to the effective management of educational institutions. In addition it contributes towards an analysis of the economics of education by preparing cost and efficiency information with regard to educational systems, institutions, projects and provisions.
